Digital Mammography Preparation and Actual Examination

Preparation before the Examination

1.  Female patient is requested to inform our staff if she is or may be pregnant on the date of examination.

2.  Dressing, deodorant agents or talcum powder must not be applied to the breasts and axiliary regions to avoid causing image artefacts.

3.  Advise to wear blouse & skirt/trousers as it is required to slip off the top during the examination.

4.  Mammography is not recommended for the breast feeding women because of the relatively limited diagnostic information from the mammograms generated at the breast feeding stage.  Women in young age with dense breasts are also not recommended because mammography provides limited information.  In case of doubt, please consult your physician.

Experience during the examination

The radiographer taking the picture will place the breast on an x-ray panel.  The panels will push your breast between them to get a clear picture.  You may feel a little bit of discomfort which only last for a few seconds.

After the examination

Return to normal routine.
